◾️For the 450 minutes or so that Japan graced the massive stage that is the FIFA Women's World Cup, few would argue they have not been one of the most exciting sides at the tournament.
Barring an hour or so in Friday's quarterfinal against Sweden, where they were uncharacteristically hesitant, lacklustre and even passive.

◾️Unfortunately for Nadeshiko, those 60 minutes were ultimately pivotal as it was the period where the Swedes would establish a two-goal lead that proved crucial in a 2-1 victory that saw them advance to the last four -- despite a stirring rally from the Japanese.

なでしこにとって残念なことは、この60分間が最終的に勝負を決する極めて重要な時間となったことだ。スウェーデン代表が2点のリードを築き、2対1で勝利してベスト4進出を決めることは最初の60分間でほぼ決まってしまっていた。 

◾️Even before the tournament kicked off, there were queries over where Japan genuinely ranked among the other title contenders. Any doubts fast evaporated with each dominant win they racked up in the group stage and then the round of 16.

But perhaps they exceeded expectations and finishing as quarterfinalists is roughly where they are at right now. 

トーナメントが始まる前から、日本が他の優勝候補の中で実際に何位に位置するのかという疑問がつきまとっていた。 しかし、グループステージ、そしてラウンド16で圧倒的な勝利を収めるたびに、どんな疑念もすぐに消え去った。

◾️It is worth noting that Japan's squad at this World Cup has an average age of just 24.9 years. By no means were they a vastly experienced outfit perfectly primed for a charge at the trophy.

From their entire 23-player roster, only captain Saki Kumagai - at 32 - is a major doubt when the next Women's World Cup rolls around in four years' time.

Yui Hasegawa, who almost singlehandedly led Nadeshiko's comeback attempt against the Swedes, should be in her prime come 2027 at the age of 30. The same could be the case for her central midfield partner Fuka Nagano, two years her junior.

Breakout stars Hinata Miyazawa and Jun Endo are both still 23, while Fujino was a fixture in coach Futoshi Ikeda's starting XI at just the age of 19. 

驚くべきは、今回のワールドカップの日本代表チームの平均年齢がわずか24.9歳だったといことだ。 決して、彼らはタイトル獲得に向けて完璧に準備された経験豊富な軍団ではなかったのだ。

23人の全選手リストの中で、4年後の女子ワールドカップで大きな疑問となるのは、32歳のキャプテン熊谷紗希だけ。他の選手は伸び代しかない。 

スウェーデン戦でなでしこの逆襲をほぼ一人で切り開いた長谷川唯は、2027年に30歳で全盛期を迎えている。セントラルミッドフィールドのパートナーである2歳年下の長野風花も間違いなく、そうだろう。

ブレイクスターの宮澤ひなたと、遠藤純はまだ23歳、藤野あおばに至っては若干19歳で池田太の先発構想に定着した。

今回、痛恨の準々決勝敗退をもたらしたとしても、日本人にとっての未来は非常に明るいと見る以外に何が予想できるというのか。◾️


南半球で、若い才能が爆発させた21日間。

来年のパリ五輪、4年後のバンコク大会ではほとんどの選手が全盛期で迎えます。

もちろん、今回のメンバーから入れ替えもあるでしょう。

もし、そのとき長谷川唯が怪我や不調ではないにも関わらず中心選手でなくなっているとしたら、それは決勝戦が終わるまで世界を震撼させ続けるなでしこジャパンが完成しているということです。

それは究極の贅沢ですが、常識的に考えて長谷川のパスに追いつける攻撃陣がきっちり揃っているはずです。
